In a thrilling showcase of youthful talent and determination, the Kalhegalekodaa Under-18 boys’ event witnessed Kayaan Abdulla Areef (Kaiputty) claim his first-ever Kalhegalekodaa victory.

The league champion from last year won every heat on his way to the final at Kalhegalekodaa. In the final, Kaiputty scored a solid 15.50 in total, collecting a 7.00 and an 8.50 on his third and fourth waves, respectively.

His opponent Mohamed Inan Abdul Hannan (Kalhusoru) could only collect a total of 10.73 out of the nine waves, scoring a 5.00 and a 5.73 for his fourth and seventh waves, respectively.

Kaiputty exited the 2022 Kalhegalekodaa from the quarterfinals, losing the heat to then-runner-up Mohamed Zayaan (Choppu), who claimed victory here at the Tiger Stripes last year. He lost the semi-final heat last year to eventual runner-up Yoosuf Kayaan Hamdhan Zaki (Kai).
