After weeks of deliberation, FIFA has appointed Ahmed Zuhoor, former Sports Minister, as the chairman of the FAM normalization committee.
The rest of the committee includes Ahmed Muizzu, Fareeha Shareef, Ismail Siman, and Ahmed Ali.
FIFA confirmed the decision on July 23rd, citing the “dire governance and financial crisis faced by the FAM” as the reason. A team of FIFA consultants met with the AFC and stakeholders of Maldivian football earlier this year.

The appointees are responsible for overseeing a smooth transition into the next term of FAM, in addition to ensuring FAM’s Articles of Association do not violate the statutes of FIFA, colluding with FIFA’s consultants in restructuring the financial structure of FAM and investigating the misappropriation of funds by the outgoing president and EXCO of the association.
FIFA’s delegates had set the end of July 2025, as the deadline for normalization. The committee would then be dissolved, given the committee’s mandate is fulfilled.
