Nahil Ahmed Siddeeq, the 24-year-old General Secretary of Maldives FA, has resigned after less than 3 months of service.

Nahil resigned from his post following an order from football’s highest governing body FIFA, as reported by Dhauru.

Operating under the supervision of a Normalization Committee since August 2024, the FAM hired Nahil for the vacant post of GS in November after the departure of his predecessor, Mohamed Jaushan Shareef.

According to Dhauru, the Normalization Committee’s chairman Ahmed Zuhoor has confirmed that the FAM had sent Nahil a letter on Tuesday informing him of the decision by FIFA, but did not detail the grounds on which Nahil was told to resign.

Following Nahil’s resignation, the role of General Secretary will be filled by Simon Ismail, a member of the Normalization Committee.

The normalization committee of FAM – which was created in August last year – is responsible for overseeing a smooth transition into the next term of FAM, in addition to ensuring FAM’s Articles of Association do not violate the statutes of FIFA, colluding with FIFA’s consultants in restructuring the financial structure of FAM, and investigating the misappropriation of funds by the former president Bassam Adeel Jaleel.
