Newly promoted side Dhidhdhoo beat Buru Sports 1-0 at the Galolhu Stadium last night, to wrap up the opening weekend of Dhivehi Premier League 2026/27 season.

Didhhoo’ Gideon Tetteh scored the goal that made the difference from a first-half free-kick. He scored it from just outside Buru’s penalty area.

He struck the ball brilliantly over the Buru players lined up as a wall and into the net.

A minute later, Tetteh had another good opportunity. His effort after going to ground went just wide off the goalpost.

Buru had numerous opportunities to equalise towards the end of the second half. Yaanu’s free-kick was saved, while efforts from Mohamed Thasmeen and Abdhulla Areen also went unconverted.

Instead, Buru were reduced to 10 men when veteran Shamveel Qasim (Bonda) was shown a red card for a foul on Dhidhdhoo’s Hussain Zimyan.

Buru finished fourth in the league last season, but have been weakened this season, with several senior players leaving the team. Their coach from last season, Mohamed Nizam, also left the club after the campaign.

The Dhidhdhoo-Buru Sports match was the fifth and final game of the opening weekend of the 2026/27 Dhivehi Premier League
