Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has successfully defended the Ari Zone title of Resort League, defeating Barcelo Whale Lagoon Maldives 4-0 in the final played yesterday evening.
Conrad scored two goals in the first half and two in the second. Conrad team’s Mohamed Rifau, Hussain Easa, Abdhullah Azeem and Laizaan Mausoom all scored one goal each, as the defending champions kept a clean sheet in the final.
Barcelo had given a stronger fight to Conrad back in their group stage confrontation, ending the game in a 1-1 stalemate.
Conrad had directly qualified for the final after securing first place in the league stage. Conrad’s undefeated campaign consisted of 13 goals, conceding just two.
Barcelo Whale Lagoon scored 7 points in the group stage with two wins and a draw. They had to play third-placed Lily Beach Resort and Spa in the one-legged semifinal. Barcelo won the semi on penalties after the game was drawn 1-1 at full-time.
The runner-up team’s Ahmed Maisoon won the top scorer of the zone, having scored eight goals in six matches. The best coach was awarded to champion Conrad team’s head coach Ali Umair.
