BML South League kicked off this Sunday, with two fixtures between the champions and runner-ups of the two qualifying zones.
Zone 1 champions Gdh.Gadhdhoo continued their win streak as they travelled to Laamu for the clash against Gan.
After a goalless ninety minutes, Gadhdhoo’s Ali Mohamed broke the deadlock in the third minute of stoppage time, lobbing the ball over the charging goalkeeper, on a counter-attack from the left flank.
Zone 1 runner-ups Gan will host their second match as well, against Zone 2 champions Gdh.Gadhdhoo on Wednesday.
The match between Feydhoo and Kunahandhoo were scheduled to be played on Sunday as well, but were delayed reportedly by a technical error. Team Feydhoo, who had travelled some 275 kilometers up north for the match, had demanded answers from FAM regarding the inconvenience.
The game eventually took place on Monday, with Feydhoo taking the three points in a six-goal game. The away team had taken a four goal lead by the sixth minute of second half, having scored three in the first. Kunahandhoo’s two goals, one in the 69th minute and the other on the stoppage time, were goals of consolation.
Kunahandhoo will travel to the atoll’s capital Gan, as the latter will host the second fixture on Saturday. Both the Laamu islands will be fighting for their survival, as both are one defeat away from losing grasp of reaching the top spot.
