Maziya Sports and Recreation kicked off the group stage of the President’s Cup 2026 with a 1-0 win over Buru Sports this evening.
Just one goal separated the two sides at full-time – scored by the Azerbaijani midfielder Nazim Mammadzada, who Maziya transferred in this January.
A 19th-minute corner kick from Ahmed Aiham was back-headed by Samooh Ali across the face of the goal, then found Mammadzada at the far post, who steered it back in from a tight angle.
Maziya and Buru Sports belong to Group 1 of the President’s Cup along with Victory Sports Club, which earned its place after the playoff win over TC Sports Club on Monday.
Tonight’s match of the President’s Cup will see Odi Sports Club take on New Radiant Sports Club, in the first game of Group B.
