Buru Sports Club has defeated Club Valencia 4-1 in this evening’s game of the Dhivehi Premier League, after conceding early on.
Club Valencia opened the scoring in the 27th minute – Hassan Navaaz headed it in from a free kick by Ethan Ibrahim Zaki.
Buru equalized just three minutes later, as Mohamed Naaim scored from the penalty spot after Valencia’s Martinez got his hand on the ball right in front of goal. By the 37th minute, Buru were leading. Valencia goalkeeper failed to punch away a long cross from the right by Usama. Instead, the ball fell onto the ground, letting Buru SC’s new signing Diagne tap it in.
The Senegalese midfielder scored a second goal in the 62nd minute, timing his run into the near post to meet another long cross by the right full-back Ibrahim Usama.
The fourth goal was a screamer from Abdhullah Yameen. The Buru number 7 fired from way out around midway into the Valencia half, after intercepting the ball by himself.
Buru had missed a great many chances throughout the game, including a long-range strike from Lily in the first half, which brushed off the crossbar. Naaim had found himself in goal-scoring opportunities in both halves.
Notably, Naaim’s penalty from today puts him on the front foot in the race for the golden boot. Naaim is the first player in the league to reach twelve goals. Ali Fasir of New Radiant and Sergio Iglesias of Maziya each have eleven goals to their names.
Buru have won six out of seven games since the November international break. Their only defeats since October were in the two fixtures against New Radiant.
The remaining four fixtures of Buru are against Odi, Victory, TC, and Maziya.
