A team of delegates from FIFA has been negotiating with Maldivian football’s stakeholders in resolving matters inside the FAM.

Delegates from the highest governing body in world football have arrived in the Maldives and, over the past few days, have held meetings with the Sports Commissioner, The Olympic Committee, the FAM, and certain football clubs who were not invited for the association’s latest extraordinary congress held in February.

The football clubs had unanimously agreed to invoke a normalization committee because the clubs believe that that is the fairest method to resolve the ongoing troubles within the FA.

According to Mihaaru Sports, all the institutions agreed to create a normalization committee. The final decision is to be made by FIFA upon reviewing the delegation’s report that is being drafted.

If FIFA does confirm the normalization committee, delegates believe the committee would help remove the current obstructions, and boost the FAM’s objectives.

Appointing normalization committees is a longstanding tradition of FIFA’s dispute resolution strategy.

This would not be the first time a normalization committee is assigned to the Maldives either. In 2008, a committee was appointed to draft the AoA and oversee the very first election of FAM. Another normalization committee had been appointed in December 2016 as well.
