Maziya Sports and Recreation’s U19 team has just fulfilled what the club had been dreaming of since 2011; win the FAM Youth Championship trophy.
The young green boys defeated Club Eagles 6-1 in the final game of Youth Championship 2025 tonight.
Eagles were the ones to open the scoring, with Ashham’s strike finding Maziya’s net in the 5th minute of the game.
While the rest of the first half went goalless, it was in the sixth minute of second half that Maziya found a glimpse of a comeback.
Refree had shown a corner kick on the 51st minute despite Maziya’s appeal as Ilaan was brought down inside the penalty area. Alson managed to unlock Eagles goal with a powerful header from Eydhan’s corner-kick.
On the 66th minute, Anoof gave Maziya the lead with a no-look shot from the centre of the box after Nassah sets him up. The duo added to Maziya’s lead on with six minutes left on the clock – Nassah’s low cross from left wing found Anoof at the far post, who puts it in to make it 3-1.
Nassah’s shot on the 87th took a big deflection off of an Eagles defender before finding the net. Two minutes later, another sprint-and-cross from Nassah from the left flank found Ilaan, who twists and shoots it in from close range.
On the 90+3rd minute, Ilaan found himself one-on-one with the Eagles goalkeeper, courtesy of a throughball from Nassah on the build-up. Ilaan chips it over the goalkeeper – this was Ilan’s second goal and Nassah’s fourth assist of the game.
With the massive comeback, Maziya puts their name on the FAM Youth Championship Trophy for the second time. This was not only the biggest win in a final game of Youth Championship, but also the biggest upset, from the perspective of Club Eagles. 2025 marks the third time that Maziya and Eagles confronted each other in a Youth Championship final. Eagles had been the winner in both 2014 and 2017.
Maziya had been impressive right from the start of the tournament this year. They claim the trophy while unbeaten, scoring 24 goals in the process.
