The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has released its finalized calendar for 2025, with significant adjustments based on club feedback.
In the new schedule, the season will begin on February 14, with the President’s Cup kicking off on March 3, coinciding with the first week of Ramadan. First-division football sees a 38-day delay, with the Dhivehi Premier League starting on April 8, shortly after Ramadan.
Other pivotal dates include the start of third-division football on the last day of May. The second division starts on July 18th, and the FA Cup’s first round starts on July 12. The SAFF Championship 2025 is scheduled from 15th June to 25th July.
The uncertainty around the season’s kick-off has caused Maziya Sports and Recreation to halt its training sessions. No other clubs have started training sessions as of today.
The Football Association of Maldives, supervised by a Normalization Committee, has reportedly been negotiating with FIFA to circumvent the difficulties caused by the dire financial state of football clubs and ensure the association stay on course with its schedule for the next year.
