Mohamed Latheef has been inducted as the interim president of VAM, alongside eight new EXCO members.

Latheef was officially named president of VAM during the association’s ‘Extraordinary Congress’, which took place on the 26th of March. He had previously held the position from 2019 to 2021.

The inauguration was originally scheduled to take place on the 19th of March. The event was postponed for a week since certain issues were to be resolved before the election, as required by the Commissioner of Sports, Mohamed Tholaal.

As per the amended operating policy of VAM, any candidate for an EXCO position will be automatically instated should the candidate go uncontested. The new president’s arrival was hence confirmed before the date of Congress.

Latheef stepped up to fill the vacant seat of VAM’s president, following the departure of Mohamed Ranesh.

Eight additional members were inaugurated for the EXCO, including four new Vice Presidents. All the new EXCO members will serve a one-year term, after which a new election will be held.
