Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) is in the process of creating a national volleyball league that spans the entire Maldives, announced Mohamed Latheef, president of VAM.

Latheef revealed that VAM is partnering with Baseline Ventures, an Indian sports marketing firm.

Within the past decade, Baseline Ventures has played a key role in the digital marketing front of several sports within India. The firm created the Prime Volleyball League in 2021. The franchise-owned league, which is now in its third season, has been a success story, financially and in terms of community engagement. The league is currently valued at around $90 million.

The newly elected president of VAM hailed the Indian Volleyball League as one of Asia’s most formidable domestic leagues. He acknowledged Baseline Ventures’ pivotal role in conceptualizing the league. Latheef entrusts the firm to vitalize the newly planned Maldivian league as it did with India.

A collaborative working group has been established with Baseline Ventures to craft a fan-centric league tailored for the entirety of the Maldives. The idea is to make the new volleyball league as engaging as possible with the local volleyball communities across Maldives.

The negotiation process is expected to go on until July, by then the league will be branded and officially announced.

While discussions are also ongoing with the Tamil Nadu Volleyball Association, Latheef noted that no formal agreement has been reached yet.

However, potential collaborations like exchange programs are being explored, as part of the negotiations between VAM and Tamil Nadu’s Volleyball Association.
