Nahil Ahmed Siddeeq has been appointed as General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives.

The position was most recently filled by Mohamed Jaushan Shareef, who served as GS in the latter days of Bassam’s tenure as president. Jaushan had briefly worked with the normalization committee as well.

There had been significant public criticism against the former GS, since Jaushan had been a close working associate with the disgraced former president. The FAM had been advised by FIFA to appoint a new GS through an open selection, rather than it be an internal hire.

Therefore the surrogates of FAM had published in the gazette a job opportunity for GS, and have interviewed several candidates.

Nahil, who had previously worked at the FAM, had most recently served as senior political director at the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

The former GS Jaushan Shareef – who is also a sports lawyer – had previously stated that he had continued his work under the normalization committee because the president Ahmed Zuhoor himself had requested to do so, and so had FIFA.

The new General Secretary is currently an MBA student. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Economics. With the appointment of the 24-year-old, Nahil has become one of the youngest General Secretaries within member associations of both FIFA and AFC.
