The National Volleyball team achieved silver in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship 2024 after the thrilling final game against Kyrgyzstan.
Maldives made it to the decisive fifth set, having turned around the game with two sets won in the first four.
As a tournament held at home, Maldives had the advantage of familiarity, and the voice of support from the vibrant audience of fans. All sets of the final game were decided on fine margins, especially the ones that Maldives won; the Kyrgyz women had scored 24 and 22 points in the second and fourth sets.
The Maldives women had defeated both Tajikistan and Afghanistan on the road to final. The home team showed immense improvement throughout, despite having to recover from the league stage defeat by the would-be champions.
Women’s Volleyball in Maldives has seen significant improvement in performance over the years. As for the Maldives National Women’s Volleyball team, this year’s CAVA championship is the third international final in half a decade, making last night’s game all the more bittersweet for the players.
