The Maldivian Men’s and Women’s Surfing teams have qualified for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. They earned qualification by finishing as the highest scoring teams in South Asia, surpassing India and Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asian Surfing League competition in K. Thulusdhoo.
The Men’s qualification spot was secured when Hoodh Ahmed scored 9.10 in the Open Men’s Quarter Finals, outperforming the Indian athlete, who scored 6.76. Although Hoodh placed 3rd in this heat, his score ensured the Maldives’ qualification for the Asian Games.
For the Women’s qualification, Mariyam Raahil Naseem (Aya) scored 4.20 in Round 3, edging out Indian athlete Kamali Prakash, who scored 3.87.
With these results, both Maldivian teams have secured their spots in the upcoming Asian Games.
