The Super Cup 2024 wrapped up in a blaze of excitement, with top Maldivian basketball teams facing off alongside Sri Lanka’s invited Eagles Club, culminating in thrilling finals for both men’s and women’s divisions.
Men’s Division:
Kings BC claimed victory in the anticipated derby against Trex BC, winning 83-73, and Trex secured a solid 79-64 win over the young Redwings team. Redwings BC, defeating Kings BC in a crucial last group stage game with a score of 103-80 to advance to the final. The finals saw Redwings face the undefeated Eagles Club, but the Eagles clinched the championship with a close 77-71 win.
Individual honors shone in this year’s Super Cup. Ismail Vildhan Yoosuf of Trex BC earned a spot in the tournament’s Best 5, leading in steals per game (SPG) and ranking third in assists per game (APG) as the only Maldivian player in the Best 5 lineup.
Redwings’ new stars Xaidhan A. Shukoor and Adam Yafiu put on standout performances, leading the team on both ends of the court.
Elijah Bailey of Kings BC took home the MVP award, dominating with an impressive 42.3 points per game (PPG), 7.6 rebounds per game (RPG), and a 47% field goal percentage.
Women’s Division:
Queens BC displayed dominance in the group stage, defeating Eagles Club 56-50 and Elite BC with a commanding 92-31 score. Eagles Club, however, claimed victory over Elite BC 73-46 to secure a spot in the final. In a fiercely competitive final, Eagles Club narrowly edged out Queens BC with a 74-72 win.
Maldivian players Aminath Shiura Abdul Bari, Aishath Inasha, and Fathimath Rishma of Queens BC were recognized in the tournament’s Best 5, with Rishma’s standout performance earning her the Finals MVP.
The Super Cup 2024 concluded with memorable performances and impressive team dynamics, setting a strong foundation for the upcoming basketball season in the Maldives.
