The Maldives National U16 Basketball team has lost to Sri Lanka by 116-28 in tonight’s game of the FIBA Asia Cup – SABA Qualifiers.
Sri Lanka were the dominant team in each of the four quarters of the game. They had scored 33 points in each of the first two quarters, while the Maldives scored just 8 in each; it was 66-16 at halftime.
Maldives boys’s team managed to somewhat hold off the Sri Lankan attack in the final quarter, conceding 19 points and scoring 10. But they had a terrible third quarter as well, which saw Maldives conceded 31 points while scoring just two.
Maldives team’s most points were scored by Aydin Yunus Hassan (8) and Akif Mohamed Nasheed (5).
The national u16 boys’ basketball team will take on India at 05:30pm Friday evening. India had defeated Bangladesh in the opening game of the cup on Thursday afternoon.
The FIBA Asia Cup – SABA Qualifiers are held in Male’, at the Maafannu Social Centre Indoor Hall. Both girls’ and boys’ teams from Maldives are competing in the tournament – The girls’ team had defeated Bangladesh girls by 104-17 in their debut game on Thursday evening.
