The Maldives U16 Basketball teams will play for a bronze medal in today’s games of the FIBA Asia Cup – SABA Qualifiers.

The U16 girls’ team had faced India yesterday evening, with hopes of qualifying for the final, but were eliminated after the 136-21 defeat. The girls’ team will take on Bangladesh once again. They had started the campaign by defeating the Bangladeshi girls’ team with a historic 104-17 win.

The U16 boys’ team played against Bangladesh in the final game of the boys’ league stage last night. Despite a strong effort to grab a win, the game ended with a narrow defeat of 55-64.

The Maldives boys’ team had previously faced bigger defeats in the tournament. The game against India on Friday had ended in 20-151. Their first game, against Sri Lanka, had resulted in a 116-18 defeat on Thursday.

Both the third-place playoffs, in girls’ and boys’ categories, are against Bangladesh. The first game starts at 12:00pm this afternoon.
