The Maldives U16 Girls Basketball team has defeated Bangladesh by a massive lead of 104-17 in the national team’s debut game this evening in the FIBA Asia Cup – SABA Qualifiers.

The tournament, hosted by the Maldives Basketball Association, tipped off this afternoon at the Maafannu Social Centre Indoor Hall.

Scores of the four quarters:

First quarter – Maldives 38 – 4 Bangladesh

Second Quarter – Maldives 15 – 2 Bangladesh

Third Quarter – Maldives 37 – 3 Bangladesh

Fourth Quarter – Maldives 14 – 8 Bangladesh

The Maldives team was lined up by Maryam Kyleen Shirhan, Maryam Malak, Lyra Ahmed Firash, Kalsam Kyna Nimal, and Captain Sarah Zaasha Zakariyya.

The U16 Girls team’s star player Maryam Kyleen Shirhan scored an impressive 26 points in today’s game. Zahara Lylie Shiyam and Neera Ibrahim Nafiu scored 18 points each. Lyra Ahmed Firash made the most rebounds in the game: thirteen.

The U16 Girls national team is coached by Guraish Afrah, alongside assistant coach Aminath Shiura Abdul Bari.

FIBA U16 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers tipped off this afternoon with India took on Bangladesh in the boys’ division. India won the game by a whopping 117-29.

Maldives boys’ team will face Sri Lanka in their first game tonight, which starts at 08:00pm.
