Volleyball Association is set to host four different tournaments of the Central Volleyball Association (CAVA) this year.

VAM published a stacked activity calendar for 2025 this week; over 20 competitive volleyball tournaments have been scheduled across the 11 months from February to December.

The most notable events on the calendar include the four CAVA tournaments to be hosted in Maldives. The CAVA Men’s Champions League 2025 and CAVA Women’s Championship 2025 will take place in July and September respectively. Additionally, Addu City is set to host two CAVA beach volleyball tournaments this August.

The period between April and July is expected to be the busiest time of the year for domestic volleyball. Some of VAM’s longstanding competitions, including Men’s National League (June 18th to 27th), Women’s National Championship (April 28th to 2nd May), plus the inter-school, inter-resort and inter-college/university volleyball tournaments all fall into this mid-year period.

The Volleyball Association had hosted international tournaments on home soil on previous occasions, the most recent of which was the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship 2024.

Team Maldives are runner-ups of CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup 2024

The national women’s team made it all the way to the finals and won silver medal after a five-set thriller against Kyrgyzstan. Last year, Maldives have played two other international tournaments. In October, the senior men’s national team travelled to Uzbekistan to take part in the CAVA Volleyball Championship, in which Maldives ended up in 5th place. Earlier in October, Maldives participated in the CAVA U-20 Championship 2024 in Sri Lanka. The team returned home having lost every match.
