The FAM has refused to disclose the names of the candidates who have submitted their nomination forms for the election, which expired on Saturday.
In the FAM media group, various journalists repeatedly asked the question. The FAM Acting General Secretary Mohamed Jaushan Shareef sent separate messages to journalists who asked questions in the group.
“…the approach of FAM would be to respond as we do right now.” Jaushan said.
He said the names of the candidates would be known by the Electoral Committee after the envelopes were cut. Although an electoral committee will conduct the election, candidates’ forms will be accepted by the FAM Secretariat. Therefore, the General Secretary is likely to have known who submitted the form. However, he said Jaushan had no authority to provide the information.
“FAM ah cannot answer without the electoral committee decision,” Jaushan said.
“However, the FA under the electoral code can only confirm the details after the approval of EC [Electoral Committee].”
Ahmed Thoriq (Tom), who had previously contested the January 31 election, has contested the election again. Current President Bassam Adheel Jaleel is also rumored to be running for a third term.
Thoriq submitted the form with the suspended Valencia support letter. From the first division, at least three clubs must submit letters of support. Besides Valencia, Thoriq was given a letter of support by Maziya and TC. It is questionable whether the electoral committee will accept the support of a suspended club.
Valencia had given letters of support to two candidates for the election at first. The FA decided not to accept the letter and canceled Thoriq’s candidacy. The re-election had to be announced after FIFA ordered the election to be suspended as the FAM had not formed an appeal committee.
