The Maldives U16 girls’ national basketball team has won the bronze medal in SABA Qualifiers of FIBA Asia Cup 2025, following today’s win in the 3rd-place play-off against Bangladesh.
The U16 boys and girls both played their 3rd place playoff games against Bangladesh. The boys game, which tipped off at noon, ended in heartbreak.
The boys lost the game by 74-42.
In the girls’ 3rd-place playoff, Maldives outpowered Bangladeshi girls once again, defeating the away team by 86-22.
Sri Lanka and India, finalists in both the girls and boys tournaments, are competing today to qualify for the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup – only the champion gets to qualify.
FIBA Asia Cup – SABA Qualifiers are played to determine a slot from among the South Asian basketball associations to qualify for the U16 FIBA Asia Cup. The FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup is a biennial international under-16 basketball competition organized by FIBA Asia. This year’s FIBA Asia Cup is set to be held in Mongolia.
